Deck Box Reviews

Best Deck Boxes:

If you enjoy your outdoor living space when the weather is nice, you will need a place to store things when the weather turns bad. Deck storage boxes are a great solution for things like sports equipment, pool supplies, even things like chair cushions or lights. No sense in lugging all your outdoor stuff to the garage when you can simply place it in the storage box or bench and be done with it. The deck boxes come in all sizes - most are between 50 and 100 gallons - although you can find some that are smaller or larger. The Suncast DB5000 50-Gallon Deck Box will cost about $75 while the Lifetime 60012 Extra Large Deck Box is $150. We like the midsize Suncast DB8000B Deck Box with Wheels. You can easily transport the box by lifting the handle on one end and pulling it by the wheels to wherever you want. Assembly on most of the boxes is really simple, just snap a few pieces together and you are done. We use ours for things like badminton racquets, pillows, outdoor blankets, gardening equipment, and more. It's a good idea to clean it out once a year. Our Lifetime deck box has not leaked at all, but we do find that things like spiders make their way into the box and call it home. We take everything out once a year, rinse the inside, let it dry, and put everything back in. The high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic is one of the most durable materials you'll find for deck boxes. Some boxes come with lockable lids, spring hinges for gentle closing, power coated steel hinges, and most are resistant to fading and weather. The top brands are Suncast, Lifetime, and Rubbermaid. Rubbermaid scores lowest in terms of long term durability. We found more reviews for their deck boxes that 'fell apart' or 'had issues'. Suncast and Lifetime score well for ease of assembly, sturdiness, and durability. These deck boxes are pretty much maintenance free. They don't rot or rust like wood products. Best Deck Box
#1 : The best of the bunch is the Lifetime 60012 Extra Large Deck Box. At 130 gallons of interior capacity, the Lifetime deck box features a lockable lid, spring hinge, and it's made with high-density polyethylene (HDPE) plastic. This box has won awards from Consumer's Digest for Best Buy award (2009). The spring hinge is perfect for kids so that they don't slam it shut on their fingers. The weather resistant deck box doesn't leak and it holds things like gardening tools, pool supplies, chair cushions, sports equipment, and more. Takes less than an hour to assemble. For the money it's hard to beat the box. Owner comments are extremely positive - ' excellent quality' and 'best large capacity storage box'. Lifetime warranties are the best on the market simply because their products hold up so well. They don't have to worry about returns or deck boxes falling apart. Great storage solution.

Best 50 Gallon Deck Box
#2 : Suncast DB5000 50-Gallon Deck Box - This is about the smallest size you can get away with for storage purposes. The poly-resin construction for durability is what we like. The box will resist fading and rain water flows right off the top as they did a great job of designing it. Suncast makes a variety of deck boxes, some are even shaped like a bench and you can sit on them. This one provides 6.8 cubic feet of storage space - great on your patio or deck area. Just enough room for kids balls, gardening gear, hoses, pillows, firewood, pool toys, etc. The sides snap together easily and the box can be assembled in about 10 minutes. If you want a safe place to keep things dry in your backyard, then this box is ample size and well made.

Deck Box With Wheels
#3 : Suncast DB8000B Deck Box with Wheels - Not all deck boxes come with wheels. In fact very few do have them. For portability reasons alone, this deck box deserves 5 stars. Who want to carry a box loaded with toys and outdoor gear when you can simple pull up on the handle and drag it along. The wheels make it easy to move around on flat surfaces. The tool free assembly is certainly another selling point from Suncast. The entire box is put together in less than 10 minutes. With a 73 gallon capacity you have room inside for firewood, sports equipment, pool supplies, seat cushions, garden tools, etc. Things stay dry inside and we've even seen people put small separators on the interior to keep their stuff organized better. The neutral colors help this storage deck box blend into any yard environment.
